Description
Esomperazole + Naproxen Sodium
Description: This is a combination product containing a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) and a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID).
Indication: It is used to relieve the signs and symptoms of osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis while decreasing the risk of developing stomach ulcers in patients who are at risk of NSAID-associated gastric ulcers.
Mechanism of Action:
- Esomeprazole: It is a proton pump inhibitor that works by irreversibly blocking the H+/K+ ATPase enzyme system (the “proton pump”) in the parietal cells of the stomach. This action inhibits the final step in acid production, thereby reducing stomach acid secretion.
- Naproxen Sodium: It is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug that works by inhibiting the cyclooxygenase (COX) enzymes, specifically COX-1 and COX-2. This inhibition prevents the synthesis of prostaglandins, which are responsible for pain, inflammation, and fever.
