Description
Citicoline
Description: Citicoline, also known as cytidine diphosphate-choline (CDP-choline), is an endogenous nucleoside. It is a psychostimulant and nootropic compound. It is a precursor to the essential phospholipid phosphatidylcholine, a major component of neuronal cell membranes.
Indication:
- Cognitive impairment and dementia
- Ischemic stroke and head trauma
- Glaucoma
- Parkinson’s disease
Mechanism of Action: Citicoline works by increasing the synthesis of phosphatidylcholine, a key component of nerve cell membranes. It also increases levels of several important neurotransmitters, including acetylcholine, norepinephrine, and dopamine. This helps to improve nerve signal transmission and protect neurons from damage. Additionally, citicoline enhances cerebral metabolism and blood flow.
