Description
Sacubitril +Valsartan
Description: Sacubitril + Valsartan is a combination medication that includes two different active ingredients. Sacubitril is a neprilysin inhibitor, and Valsartan is an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB).
Indication: This drug is primarily indicated for the treatment of chronic heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF) in adults. It is used to reduce the risk of cardiovascular death and hospitalization for heart failure.
Mechanism of Action:
- Sacubitril: This component inhibits the enzyme neprilysin. Neprilysin is responsible for breaking down natriuretic peptides, which are hormones that help to regulate blood pressure and fluid balance. By inhibiting neprilysin, sacubitril increases the levels of these peptides, leading to vasodilation (widening of blood vessels), reduced blood pressure, and increased sodium excretion by the kidneys.
- Valsartan: This component blocks the effects of angiotensin II, a powerful hormone that constricts blood vessels and increases blood pressure. By blocking the angiotensin II receptors, valsartan causes blood vessels to relax and widen, lowering blood pressure and reducing the workload on the heart.
