Description
Fusia-H
Description
Fusia-H (also known as Fucidin H, Fudic-H, or Fusac-H) is a topical cream that contains a combination of two active ingredients: fusidic acid and hydrocortisone. Fusidic acid is an antibiotic, and hydrocortisone is a corticosteroid. The product is formulated to provide both antibacterial and anti-inflammatory effects.
Indication
Fusia-H is used to treat skin conditions that are both inflamed (such as eczema or dermatitis) and infected with bacteria. It is prescribed for conditions like atopic dermatitis, allergic dermatitis, and seborrheic dermatitis that have a secondary bacterial infection.
Mechanism of Action
- Fusidic Acid: This is a bacteriostatic antibiotic, which means it prevents bacteria from multiplying, allowing the body’s immune system to clear the infection. It works by interfering with bacterial protein synthesis. Specifically, it prevents the turnover of elongation factor G (EF-G) from the ribosome, which is a crucial step in the process of building new proteins. Without this process, the bacteria cannot grow or reproduce.
- Hydrocortisone: This is a mild corticosteroid. Its primary mechanism is to reduce inflammation. It does this by preventing skin cells from releasing substances that cause inflammation, such as redness, swelling, and itching.
