Description: Fabulas is a medication used to treat chronic gout, a painful form of arthritis caused by the buildup of uric acid in the joints. The active ingredient is febuxostat. It is an anti-gout agent that works by lowering the level of uric acid in the blood. It is often prescribed for long-term management of the condition, especially for patients who cannot tolerate or do not respond well to other common gout medications like allopurinol.

Indication: Fabulas is indicated for the chronic management of hyperuricemia (elevated uric acid levels in the blood) in adult patients with gout. It is used to prevent gout attacks and the formation of uric acid crystals in and around the joints, which cause pain, swelling, and inflammation. It is not intended for the treatment of asymptomatic hyperuricemia.

Mechanism of Action: Fabulas belongs to a class of drugs called xanthine oxidase inhibitors. It works by selectively and potently inhibiting the enzyme xanthine oxidase. This enzyme is responsible for the final two steps in the metabolic pathway of converting purines to uric acid. By blocking xanthine oxidase, Fabulas effectively reduces the production of uric acid in the body, which lowers the overall concentration of uric acid in the blood and helps to prevent the formation of urate crystals that cause gout.
