Description
Amlodipine + Perindopril
Description: This is a combination drug that contains two active ingredients: Amlodipine and Perindopril. It is used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension) and stable coronary artery disease. Amlodipine is a calcium channel blocker, and Perindopril is an angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor.
Indication: It is primarily indicated for the treatment of essential hypertension and stable coronary artery disease in patients who require treatment with both amlodipine and perindopril.
Mechanism of Action:
- Amlodipine: As a calcium channel blocker, it works by relaxing the smooth muscles of the heart and blood vessel walls. It dilates arteries, which lowers blood pressure and improves blood flow.
- Perindopril: As an ACE inhibitor, it prevents the conversion of angiotensin I to angiotensin II, a potent vasoconstrictor. This leads to the relaxation of blood vessels, which lowers blood pressure. It also reduces the secretion of aldosterone, which helps the body excrete sodium and water. The combined action of both drugs provides a synergistic effect in lowering blood pressure.
